Protein names Galactosylgalactosylxylosylprotein 3-beta-glucuronosyltransferase 1 (EC 2.4.1.135) (Beta-1,3-glucuronyltransferase 1) (Glucuronosyltransferase P) (GlcAT-P) (UDP-GlcUA:glycoprotein beta-1,3-glucuronyltransferase) (GlcUAT-P) |
Gene names B3GAT1,B3GAT1 GLCATP |
Protein family Glycosyltransferase 43 family |
Mass 38256Da |
Function FUNCTION: Involved in the biosynthesis of L2/HNK-1 carbohydrate epitope on glycoproteins. Can also play a role in glycosaminoglycan biosynthesis. Substrates include asialo-orosomucoid (ASOR), asialo-fetuin, and asialo-neural cell adhesion molecule. Requires sphingomyelin for activity: stearoyl-sphingomyelin was the most effective, followed by palmitoyl-sphingomyelin and lignoceroyl-sphingomyelin. Activity was demonstrated only for sphingomyelin with a saturated fatty acid and not for that with an unsaturated fatty acid, regardless of the length of the acyl group. {ECO:0000250|UniProtKB:O35789}. |
Catalytic activity CATALYTIC ACTIVITY: Reaction=3-O-(beta-D-galactosyl-(1->3)-beta-D-galactosyl-(1->4)-beta-D-xylosyl)-L-seryl-[protein] + UDP-alpha-D-glucuronate = 3-O-(beta-D-GlcA-(1->3)-beta-D-Gal-(1->3)-beta-D-Gal-(1->4)-beta-D-Xyl)-L-seryl-[protein] + UDP + H(+); Xref=Rhea:RHEA:24168, Rhea:RHEA-COMP:12571, Rhea:RHEA-COMP:12573, ChEBI:CHEBI:15378, ChEBI:CHEBI:58052, ChEBI:CHEBI:58223, ChEBI:CHEBI:132090, ChEBI:CHEBI:132093; EC=2.4.1.135; Evidence={ECO:0000250|UniProtKB:O35789}; |
