background

Interleukin (IL)-1 has been reported to be involved in the development of tuberculosis (TB). IL1R1 and IL1R2 encode a cytokine receptor that belongs to the IL-1 receptor family.IL1R2 (Interleukin 1 Receptor Type 2) is a Protein Coding gene. Diseases associated with IL1R2 include Endometriosis and Mastitis. Among its related pathways are Hematopoietic cell lineage and IL-1 signaling pathway. Gene Ontology (GO) annotations related to this gene include interleukin-1 receptor activity and interleukin-1, type II, blocking receptor activity.

molecular weight

The protein has a predicted MW of 39.2 kDa. Due to glycosylation, the protein migrates to 60-70 kDa based on Tris-Bis PAGE result.

Function
Non-signaling receptor for IL1A, IL1B and IL1RN. Reduces IL1B activities. Serves as a decoy receptor by competitive binding to IL1B and preventing its binding to IL1R1. Also modulates cellular response through non-signaling association with IL1RAP after binding to IL1B. IL1R2 (membrane and secreted forms) preferentially binds IL1B and poorly IL1A and IL1RN. The secreted IL1R2 recruits secreted IL1RAP with high affinity; this complex formation may be the dominant mechanism for neutralization of IL1B by secreted/soluble receptors (By similarity).
Subellular location
Membrane; Single-pass type I membrane protein. Cell membrane. Secreted .
Tissues
Strongly expressed in B-cells, with levels 21 times higher than IL1R1. In T-cells expressed 5 times more compared with IL1R1.
Structure
Associates with IL1RAP to form a non-signaling interleukin-1 receptor complex.
Post-translational modification
A soluble form (sIL1R2) can also be produced by proteolytic cleavage at the cell surface (shedding) involving a metalloproteinase.
