background | CD83 is a member of the immunoglobulin (Ig) superfamily and is expressed in membrane bound or soluble forms. Membrane CD83 (mCD83) can be detected on a variety of activated immune cells, although it is most highly and stably expressed by mature dendritic cells (DC). While CD83 is emerging as a promising immune modulator with therapeutic potential, some important aspects such as its ligand/s, intracellular signaling pathways and modulators of its expression are unclear. |
molecular weight | The protein has a predicted MW of 39.1 kDa. Due to glycosylation, the protein migrates to 55-65 kDa based on Tris-Bis PAGE result. |
available size | 100 µg, 500 µg |
endotoxin | Less than 1EU per μg by the LAL method. |

Function FUNCTION: Transmembrane glycoprotein predominantly found on the surface of many immune cells including dendritic cells or lymphocytes that plays various roles in immune response regulation. Plays an essential role in CD4(+) T-selection, differentiation and stability by regulating the activity of the major E3 ubiquitin ligase responsible for controlling MHC II trafficking MARCHF8 (PubMed:27503071, PubMed:27503069). Also inhibits MARCHF1 association with MHC II and ubiquitination of MHCII (By similarity). In addition, acts as an important modulator of protective responses against acute infections (PubMed:31527313). {ECO:0000250|UniProtKB:Q01151, ECO:0000269|PubMed:27503069, ECO:0000269|PubMed:27503071, ECO:0000269|PubMed:31527313}. |
Subellular location SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Membrane {ECO:0000250}; Single-pass type I membrane protein {ECO:0000250}. |
Tissues TISSUE SPECIFICITY: Abundantly expressed in spleen and brain, but is also detected in most tissues analyzed. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:9799334}. |
Structure SUBUNIT: Monomer. Homodimer. Homotrimer. Interacts with MARCHF1; this interaction antagonizes MARCHF1-mediated MHC II and CD86 down-regulation. {ECO:0000250|UniProtKB:Q01151}. |
