background

C-type lectin domain family 2, member D (CLEC2D) is implicated in the immune response. Pre-eclampsia and HIV infection have opposing immune responses. The contrasting expression of CLEC2D in HIV infection and pre-eclampsia is demonstrative of the immunosuppressive and pro-inflammatory roles of the respective pathologies. However, this implication may be confounded by highly active anti-retroviral treatment (HAART).

molecular weight

The protein has a predicted MW of 59.1 kDa. Due to glycosylation, the protein migrates to 72-78 kDa based on Tris-Bis PAGE result.

available size

100 µg, 500 µg

endotoxin

Less than 1EU per μg by the LAL method.

Function
Receptor for KLRB1 that protects target cells against natural killer cell-mediated lysis (PubMed:16339513, PubMed:20843815). Inhibits osteoclast formation (PubMed:14753741, PubMed:15123656). Inhibits bone resorption (PubMed:14753741). Modulates the release of interferon-gamma (PubMed:15104121). Binds high molecular weight sulfated glycosaminoglycans (PubMed:15123656).

Subellular location
Cell membrane ; Single-pass type II membrane protein .; [Isoform 2]: Endoplasmic reticulum .; [Isoform 4]: Endoplasmic reticulum .
Tissues
Detected in peripheral blood leukocytes, osteoblasts, lymph node, thymus and spleen. Isoform 1, isoform 2 and isoform 4 are expressed in T- and B-lymphocytes, and at lower levels in NK cells. They are also expressed in B-cell lines and LPS-matured monocyte-derived dendritic cells.
Structure
Homodimer; disulfide-linked.
Post-translational modification
N-glycosylated.
