Additional information

Mikrogen recomLine HIV-1 & HIV-2 IgG test is a serological, qualitative in vitro line immunoassay based on recombinant antigens from the ENV, POL, and GAG gene regions. It enables simple and reliable confirmation of HIV screening results.

The major challenges in modern HIV serology are early detection of infection and reliable detection of all HIV variants. Solving these two problems increases the safety of blood donations and blood products and helps avert the further spread of HIV infection.

Advantages
  • Use of 8 serologically relevant HIV antigens.
  • HIV-1 & HIV-2 envelope antigens on one strip for rapid differentiation.
  • Very high seroconversion sensitivity for early diagnosis.
  • Antibody detection of different subtypes of group M and group O HIV-1.
  • Easy and clear interpretation due to easy-to-read banding.
  • Partial and full automation, software-based evaluation (recomScan), and integration with laboratory information systems possible.
  • Highest sensitivity and specificity through the use of recombinant antigens:
Bands
Antigen Gene Area Function/Localization
gp120 ENV HIV-1 External glycoprotein, component of the viral envelope of HIV-1
gp41 ENV HIV-1 Component of the viral envelope of HIV-1
p51 POL Reverse transcriptase of HIV-1
p31 POL Integrase of HIV-1
p24 GAG Capsid protein of HIV-1
p17 GAG Matrix protein of HIV-1
gp105 ENV HIV-2 External glycoprotein, component of the viral envelope of HIV-2
gp36 ENV HIV-2 Transmembrane glycoprotein, component of the viral envelope of HIV-2
target relevance
Organism
HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus)
Structure and strains
HIV is a retrovirus with a lipid bilayer envelope containing surface glycoproteins (gp120 and gp41) that facilitate viral entry. The core contains two RNA genomes and enzymes, including reverse transcriptase, integrase, and protease. The virus primarily infects CD4+ T cells.
Detection and diagnosis
HIV is central in the development of antiretroviral therapies, including protease inhibitors, reverse transcriptase inhibitors, and integrase inhibitors. It also plays a role in gene therapy research, where HIV-based vectors are used for delivering therapeutic genes.
