CCL2 (MCP-1)
Chemokine with strong monocyte chemoattractant and inflammatory properties. Binds primarily to CCR2, but also to atypical receptors ACKR1 and ACKR2, and potentially CCR4. Crucial for recruiting monocytes, macrophages, and memory T cells to sites of tissue injury, infection, and inflammation. Elevated levels are implicated in the pathogenesis of numerous diseases, including atherosclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, and various cancers, often by promoting the tumor microenvironment and fibrosis.
