background

ASGR1 is a liver-specific surface marker that is exclusively expressed in liver and mediates internalization and lysosomal degradation of blood asialoglycoproteins.

molecular weight

The protein has a predicted MW of 27.49 kDa. Due to glycosylation, the protein migrates to 38-55 kDa based on Tris-Bis PAGE result.

target relevance
ASGR1 is a liver-specific surface marker that is exclusively expressed in liver and mediates internalization and lysosomal degradation of blood asialoglycoproteins.
Protein names
Asialoglycoprotein receptor 1 (ASGP-R 1) (ASGPR 1) (C-type lectin domain family 4 member H1) (Hepatic lectin H1) (HL-1)
Gene names
ASGR1,ASGR1 CLEC4H1
Mass
9606Da
Function
Mediates the endocytosis of plasma glycoproteins to which the terminal sialic acid residue on their complex carbohydrate moieties has been removed. The receptor recognizes terminal galactose and N-acetylgalactosamine units. After ligand binding to the receptor, the resulting complex is internalized and transported to a sorting organelle, where receptor and ligand are disassociated. The receptor then returns to the cell membrane surface.
Subellular location
[Isoform H1a]: Membrane; Single-pass type II membrane protein.; [Isoform H1b]: Secreted .
Tissues
Expressed exclusively in hepatic parenchymal cells.
Structure
Interacts with LASS2.; (Microbial infection) Interacts with hepatitis E virus capsid protein ORF2.
Post-translational modification
Phosphorylated on a cytoplasmic Ser residue.
