Myelin basic protein (MBP)
[Myelin Basic Protein (MBP)]: Structural protein critical for the formation and maintenance of the myelin sheath in the central nervous system. Plays a key role in insulating nerve fibers and ensuring rapid nerve impulse conduction. MBP is also a marker for myelin integrity and is studied in demyelinating diseases such as multiple sclerosis.
